ALTON BASKERVILLE
Warden Alton Baskerville has been a leader in the field of
Corrections since 1974 when he became Assistant
Superintendent, Powhatan Correctional Center. He expanded
programs for the inmate population, and effectively opened
communication channels between the inmates and the
administration through the use of the Inmate Advisory
Committee. He became warden of Deep Meadow Correctional
center in November, 1978. Over the course of thirty-one
years as a warden of five different facilities, he has been
a role model for scores of corrections leaders, including
thirteen direct reports who became wardens of major
institutions. In the 1990’s, the first Breaking Barrier
Program for inmates in Virginia was started under his
leadership with the support of Gordon Graham and Co. This
Program is still being used to impact the lives of offenders
in the DOC.
He is a
board member of the Virginia Correctional Association
(VCA). He has been a guest speaker for the Criminal Justice
Department at VCU. He has held positions of responsibility
in his church, and his community. |
