Sgt. Kavin E. James
Sergeant Kavin James began his
career in corrections on May 10, 2004 at Powhatan
Correctional Center. While there he was assigned to work at
the Powhatan Receiving Unit and became proficient at every
post in the unit. In January 2006 Kavin was promoted to the
position of Security Threat Group Investigator at the
Powhatan Receiving Center. He was primarily responsible for
identifying and tracking the assorted gang members who were
housed at the Receiving Center. He was also responsible for
the juvenile population that began to arrive in March 2006.
During this year he also received the Employee of the Month
Award twice, April and October, for excellent work
performance. He completed the two-week Institutional
Investigator School in September of this year.
In March 2007 he was promoted as the Institutional
Investigator at Deep Meadow Correctional Center. During this
year he was privileged to graduate from the inaugural class
of LEAD for Correctional Supervisors at the Academy for
Staff Development.
During this year he also completed the required course work
and received his certificate as General Instructor from the
Department of Criminal Justice Services. In the capacity of
General Instructor he has been utilized by the various
departments in Corrections to instruct employees on the
identification, tracking and management of the gang
population. These include: Food Service, Administrative
Staff, Department of Correctional Education, Detention and
Diversion, Probation and Parole and monthly in-service. He
most recently completed the class “Forensic Crime Scene
Management for the Correctional Institution”. This is a
week-long course presented by the National Forensic Academy
from the University of Tennessee.
He hopes to soon complete his studies to obtain a Bachelors
of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. |
